Isserley drives through the Scottish countryside and picks up hitchhikers. Those people are never heard of again. Only Isserley sets out on a new drive the next day. So, please don’t get into strange cars on the 23rd of February as that’s when the Uncanny Book-Club discusses Michel Faber’s “Under the Skin”!
Yes, we want you to be there. Because, you see, this is a rather good book. Equal parts funny, erotic and disgusting (not in the way you think), the book tells us the story of Isserley. She’s a poor soul with a remarkable bosom and thick glasses. She drives around Scotland and picks up hitchhikers. While she is tiny and physically weak, these hitchhikers are never heard of again. Why? Well, that would be a spoiler, wouldn’t it?
Speaking of which, if you are thinking of maybe wanting to come, and haven’t read the book and decide to do some research before you buy it, please do not read the Wikipedia articles associated with either the book or the movie. They give away a big twist in the first sentence.
This Uncanny Book-Club Event will be hosted by Schira and Stefan and we’ll start at 5pm on Sunday, 23rd of February.
Please RSVP on our Facebook-page or on our Meetup-Page so that we can reserve a spot big enough for all of us. And also, please observe the house rules of the Voltaire and don’t bring any food or drinks with you.
Feel free to bring your friends, even if they haven’t read the book, because it will be fun either way.
The Address: Spiegelgasse 1, 8001 Zürich
How to get there:
- Take either the tram #4 or #15 to Zürich Rathaus
- Walk up the Marktgasse until the first right turn
- Keep looking to the left and you can’t miss it.
See you there!
