The first meeting of the Uncanny Book-Club has concluded at around 2.18am on Sunday morning. As of writing this, it’s 3.07am. In a nutshell, it was amazing. The groundwork is now there. The organizers of the first night now know what to look out for and the idea of who we are and what we do is now clear. So here we go: The First Plan of the Uncanny Book-Club.
Shortly after 5pm at El Lokal in Zürich. The first decisions were made. Chiefly among them: We are not some exclusive club. There is no and there shall never be some sort of higher cabal of people who make everything happen and dictate where the Uncanny Book-Club is going. This is not who we are, this is not what we want. We want to be an open forum, a place for everyone to share their ideas and their projects. Those who can, they will help make those ideas happen and do something amazing.
We now have a Podcast. In case you’ve not noticed it, it’s right here. There will be a second episode where at least three members of the Book-Club will talk about many a thing. Music might also be added to the topics.
There will be more authors on this site, including a first irregularly published correspondent from Germany. More diversified content. A small group talked about publishing short stories, if need be serialized, on this site. One such story is already in the works and one and a half chapters exist in a very raw format.
Later at night, after the first wave of people at the event have left, there was talk about the next project. The aforementioned second episode of the Podcast was decided on. And the first ideas came about for an event before our first, official Book-Club on September 22nd. Talks about what to do in August surfaced. So here are a couple of ideas.
- There will be a barbecue in a quiet place in August.
- Something summer-y
- Maybe something with music?
So if you have any ideas that might fit these criteria, or something completely different but also awesome, let us know. Who knows, maybe your event will be the next thing The Uncanny Book-Club does.
As an afterthought: Of course we had a great time. We had a lot of fun and it was really, really hot outside. But it was amazing.
